Gaining the headland

Gaining the headland, 2014, 41 x 91cm, oil on linen,
exhibited as part of Dawn Landing at Streamer design & communication, Albert Park
sold

The sea, alive, hungry,
nibbles at the shore,
at the body of land
that bears the steel hull
of the old landing craft

A still moat above,
a breeze ruffled surface,
a bridge across,
to the sand castle

First light warms the cliff,
the keep's ramparts,
slips through the arrow slit
and over the hills beyond

A boy with an idea,
his courageous dog,
ready to head inland
